Rj’s Cake Shop
The best ten minutes of the year
That’s the bit where the candles go on, everybody sings slightly out of tune, and the cake in the middle is one of ours.

The Rj’s way
Three rules we don’t bend.
- 01
Baked the morning you collect it
Nothing sits in the fridge overnight waiting for a customer. We bake to the order book, which is also why we ask for a couple of days.
- 02
Barely sweet, on purpose
Buttercream and lightly whipped dairy cream, never over-sweetened. You get the vanilla, the pistachio, the strawberry — instead of a mouthful of sugar.
- 03
Every letter piped by hand
The ruffles, the ribbon, the wobbly Happy Birthday. No printed toppers, no shortcuts. It’s a small shop and we like it that way.
How much cake
Buy the size up. Nobody has ever regretted it.
Slice counts assume dessert-sized portions — the generous Canadian kind, not the polite ones. Every cake on the menu comes in at least two sizes.
6 inch
6 – 8 slices
A kitchen table, a small birthday, or two people over three evenings. No judgement.
8 inch
12 – 16 slices
The one most people order. Comfortable for a party of a dozen with seconds going spare.
10 inch
20 – 26 slices
Offices, big family dinners, engagement parties. Needs five days' notice.
Also available: tall cakes (double the height, same diameter), two-tier cakes for 40 and up, and slab cakes for the sort of party where you stop counting. Ask and we'll quote it.
From the counter
Last week, at the shop on 81A Ave.
Every one of these left the counter within a day of being finished. Photographed at the shop, usually in a hurry, just before somebody drove off with it.

How to order
Three steps, one of them is cake.
- 01
Tell us what you're celebrating
The cake, the size, the date, and the words you want on top. A reference photo helps more than a paragraph.
- 02
We confirm and hold the date
Usually within a few hours. A 50% deposit locks it in; the rest is due when you collect.
- 03
Collect it cold
Pick up on the day, keep it in the fridge, and take it out half an hour before the candles go on.
